Three tips for creative bravery

Some of us are good at giving it but not so much at putting it into practice. I put mine to the test recently.

I had been wanting to do a live video for a while now. Kept saying I would but put it off for another day. I pulled into Procrastination Station and set up a “Not yet but soon!” tent there.

I avoided it like we do all hard things. But the more we do, the scarier they become in our minds. We start worrying about messing up and making a fool of ourselves. That we might regret the whole thing and leave town, assume a new identity — just for trying something new.

To go live, I had to muster up some creative bravery. Here’s how:

  1. Follow your creative whims: In art school, we were taught to second guess our ideas. That our first idea was rarely the best. Ever the rebel, I use my first idea most of the time. For this collage, it was a wintery scene.
