Hey pals,
We’ve all got to eat and so does our creativity. In the same way that “we are what we eat”, our creativity has to be nourished too. I mentioned that I was unmotivated to collage earlier this month, that I would explore nature, slow living, and other things that I love to get my scissors moving.
The ideas started flowing again and as I glued tiny green leaves in a cottage window, my creativity perking up like a wilted flower after watering. I began to fill my sketchbook with ideas, plan new collages, and write more newsletters to you.
Creative nourishment doesn’t only happen at our desks though. Other ways I feed my creativity:
Slow mornings with coffee and a blueberry bagel
Watching nature documentaries
Letting myself create slowly
Snacking on my favorite fruit
Browsing gardening books at the library
But sometimes our creativity is like a well loved garden that we got too busy to water and now, weeds have sprung up all over the place. We want to give it the time and energy it needs to thrive but it feels like too big of a task.
So why tend to it at all?
Because trying to make art when your creativity is being strangled is hard. Instead of staring into the abyss of the blank page, you can tend to your creativity this week by:
Moving through your day with intention instead of rushing
Wearing your good fits because being alive is the special occasion
Using the fancy sketchbook for your drawing warm ups
Reading a book from your “to read” pile
Having a movie night with yourself
Maybe you’ll find that the ideas come a bit easier the next time you’re at your desk.
Until next time,
Jade
