On Taking Breaks and Scratching the Collage Itch

Grazing sheep, a process video, and book update
2

I might have mentioned this in my last newsletter, but I’m currently working on a book! A huge achievement, after having the pleasure of putting my spin on other authors’ books for a few years. Books are a lot of work though and after months and months of sketching, it was time to dive into another collage! ✂️

Are these sheep adorable or what?

There’s nothing better than ending the day in a flurry of paper scraps. I wanted to make something small and green, a landscape maybe, that would also compliment the landscapes I made in Sarah Dyer’s Zoom session.

Two scans of collages I made using Map Crunch. One is brown mountains on the seaside and the other is white houses on brown cliffs. Two scans of collages I made using Map Crunch. One is brown mountains on the seaside and the other is white houses on brown cliffs.
Remember these?

On top of wanting a third image for a postcard set I’ve been thinking about making, it was a nice break from the book making process. Books are a joy and the process of making them can be the best kind of slog.

There’s the writing of the book, the sketching, and revising it all until you can wrap it up in a neat bow and leave it on a kind editor’s doorstep, in the hopes that they’ll give it a home.

Two photos of a collage in my sketchbook. The collage is a landscape of rolling green hills with grazing white sheep and an orange barn in the right corner. On my desk are paper scraps, scissors, and Caron Dache crayons. Two photos of a collage in my sketchbook. Grazing sheep on my messy desk

There are so many decisions to make, and trying to realize a decade long vision is a long but satisfying process. The gentle grind (because we don’t endorse hustle culture in this house!) continues tomorrow but in the meantime, enjoy the making of these tiny grazing sheep. 🌿🐑
